The streets of Reading were filled with cyclists for a worthy cause.
Not One More: A Peace and Justice Project on Sunday hosted its inaugural Pedal for Peace Reading Ride Out, an event that seeks to raise awareness about youth violence and shift the narrative that such violence is inevitable.
Organizers of the event said the ride began at the Pathstone Corporation on North Second Street with cyclists of all ages riding in solidarity to demonstrate their shared hope for a safer and more unified community. The ride ended in City Park with a presentation from elected officials and victims of violence.
Thalia Robles was one of those who addressed the crowd.
The Not One More youth ambassador spoke about losing a loved one to violence just steps from where the event was held nearly one year ago. As the first person to arrive on the scene following the shooting, Robles shared her story of grief, strength and commitment to ending the cycle of violence for future generations.
“Too many of our young people are growing up thinking violence is normal,” Not One More Executive Director Dr. Ebonie Cunningham Stringer said. “Today, we proved that the Berks community is choosing something different — peace, purpose and power in unity.”
Organizers said the day included an exciting freestyle competition, drawing skilled riders from across Berks County. Winners rode away with new bikes and premium bike accessories, recognizing not only their talent but also their commitment to peaceful expression through biking culture.
The event was held in partnership with Same 24 Barber Company owner Dante Johnson, an advocate for youth development and nonviolence.
Not One More Director of Outreach Shawn Bridges said the Pedal for Peace event was a success and organizers are already looking ahead to growing the movement and deepening its impact next summer.
“The Pedal for Peace Reading Ride Out is more than just a bike event — it’s a declaration that youth violence is not an inevitability, but a challenge the Berks County community can overcome together,” he said.
