PennDOT to host Reading listening session on electric vehicles, charging stations

PennDOT will host an interactive community conversation this week in Reading about electric vehicles and needs that community members and businesses may have for charging stations in their area.

The session scheduled for Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St., is the fifth of six interactive communication conversations being held in different regions of the state.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides states with $7.5 billion to help make EV charging more accessible to all Americans for local and long-distance trips.

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program established under the infrastructure law provides dedicated funding to strategically deploy EV charging infrastructure and establish an interconnected network to facilitate data collection, access and reliability.

Over the five years of the NEVI Formula Program, Pennsylvania will receive $171.5 million in dedicated formula funding. PennDOT will administer the program.

The Pennsylvania NEVI plan is an evolving document updated annually, officials said. The initial plan supports the allocation of federal funds for federal fiscal years 2022 and 2023. The fiscal year 2024 plan update was submitted to the Federal Highway Administration in August for approval and will support the allocation of federal funds for federal fiscal year 2024.

Space for the GoggleWorks session is limited. To learn more about the program or register, go to the PennDOT website, penndot.pa.gov/EV.
