Wilson freshman Alivia Noecker tied for fifth place in the girls 3A shot put on Friday at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.
Noecker heaved the shot 39-0½ to earn a medal in her first trip to the state meet.
Ephrata junior Sophia Rivera won the event with a put of 43-3.
Reading High senior Xavier Beatty earned his second career state medal, placing sixth in the triple jump.
Beatty, who was second in the long jump last year, jumped 45-6½. This is his first year of triple jumping. He competes in his signature event on Saturday at 9 a.m.
New Oxford junior Brayden Billman won with a jump of 47-5.
Noecker’s teammate, junior Violet Houck, advanced to the finals in the 3A 100 hurdles. Houck finished second in her heat but advanced to the final with the fifth fastest time overall. The top eight qualify so Houck is guaranteed a medal as long as he finishes the race.
The hurdle finals are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.
In the boys 110 hurdles, Gov. Mifflin senior Tristan Shayo ran Tristan Shayo 14.92 to finish 18th overall, and Conrad Weiser senior Gavin Rapp ran 15.01 for 20th.
Palmyra senior Tyler Burgess set a meet record in winning his heat in 13.65.
