PIAA playoffs: Unbeaten Wyomissing girls start state title quest in lacrosse

The Wyomissing girls lacrosse team is just four wins away from a perfect season and the ultimate prize in Pennsylvania sports – a state title.

The Spartans (22-0) open play Tuesday in the PIAA Class 2A girls lacrosse championships by hosting a first-round match (4:30 p.m.) against Quaker Valley, 11-5 and the District 7 third-place finisher.

Wyomissing beat Twin Valley for the BCIAA title and then steamrolled Hersey 16-2 in the District 3 final last week.

Joining the Spartans in the 2A tournament will be the Raiders, who are 18-4 and finished third in District 3 with a 15-5 win over Trinity in the third-place match. Hershey beat Twin Valley 16-6 in the district semifinals.

Twin Valley travels to Mars Area High School Tuesday for a 5 p.m. match with the District 7 champions who are 19-1.

Also in girls lacrosse, District 3 runner-up Wilson (15-8) hosts District 1 third-place finisher Conestoga (17-6) at 1 p.m. at George Mack Stadium.

In the boys tournament, Wilson will open in 3A and Twin Valley in 2A on Tuesday.
