Wyomissing uses two overtimes to win in PIAA girls lacrosse

Molly Macrina scored the game-tying goal as time expired and Wyomissing eventually won in double overtime, beating Danville 11-10 in the first round of the PIAA girls 2A lacrosse playoffs on Tuesday at Danville High School.

Wyomissing goalie Skylar Maggs made an outstanding defensive play with a under a minute left in regulation to get the ball for the Spartans (18-4).

Macrina then scored the dramatic goal to keep the Spartans’ playoff hopes alive.

After a scoreless first overtime, Sophia Zeppos picked up a loose ball and scored for Wyomissing, sending the Spartans into Saturday’s quarterfinal round.

For Wyomissing, the District 3 runner-up, Karly Hyde scored three goals and had four assists. She also had six draw controls.

Maggs made nine saves.

Zeppos had three goals and an assist and Macrina finished with two goals.

Mackey Lentz, Kacey Maggs and Abby Zechman each chipped in a goal for the Spartans. Kacey Maggs had six draw controls.

Wyomissing’s defense forced eight turnovers in the match.

Wyomissing plays District 12 champion Archbishop Carroll in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Carroll defeated District 1 third-place finisher Springfield Township 13-4 on Tuesday.

Archbishop Carroll (18-2) is the three-time defending Class 2A champion, beating Twin Valley the last two years in the finals.
