Pierce Mason, Hamburg run to District 3 playoff win over Upper Dauphin in high school football

Pierce Mason ran for 268 yards and four touchdowns on 24 carries to lead Hamburg to a 49-35 win over Upper Dauphin in a District 3 Class 3A football quarterfinal Friday at Hawk Hill.

The fourth-seeded Hawks (9-2) advance to take on top-seeded Wyomissing (10-0), which had a bye, in a semifinal game Saturday, Nov. 12, at the A-Field at 1 p.m.

Mason scored on 22, 11, 56 and 8 yards for Hamburg, which won a district playoff game for the second straight season. Last year’s 31-27 victory over Bermudian Springs was the first in program history.

The Hawks, who fell behind 14-0 before scoring 35 straight points, also scored on a 4-yard run by Xander Menapace, a 27-yard pass from Menapace to Ty Werley and a 62-yard run by Derek Ruiz.

The fifth-seeded Trojans (8-3) managed to cut it to 42-35 with 6:37 left, but Hamburg used up 5:21 on a 52-yard drive capped by Mason’s 8-yard run to make it 49-35 with 1:16 left.
