Primary election 2025: 4 running for 2 spots in Bern Township

Four candidates are seeking the Republican nomination for two seats in Bern Township.

Incumbent Brian Eveland, Brennan Beltz, Theresa Stork and William Bundy are competing for the spots on the board of supervisors in the May 20 primary.

Supervisors serve six-year terms.

We asked the candidates to respond to a question.

Question: Name a single problem facing the municipality you are running to represent and how you would address that issue if elected.

Occupation: Eveland is a police officer who also serves as a hostage/crisis negotiator.

Age: 53.

Response: It has been my goal to keep Bern Township safe for its residents and businesses. As a township resident for 48 years and a police officer for 31 years, I am aware residents want to feel safe and businesses won’t come to Bern without quality emergency response.

In my first five years, I have taken part in the interview selection process to hire four exceptional officers who have already received awards and recognition for their service. Due to the decreased number of volunteers, we contracted with a full-time paid fire company to prevent a huge increase in your homeowner insurance rates and to guarantee quick response when needed.

In addition, I served as a police officer association president for a large Berks County police department. I am familiar with union contracts and negotiated a 15-year contract that protected employee benefits while saving that municipality more than $1 million over the life of the contract. Public safety is a major consideration of owners when selecting a location for their business. By attracting businesses to dedicated areas, it will increase revenue to prevent future tax increases. I would appreciate your vote to continue to work to keep Bern Township safe for our residents and their families.
