The Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps continued its winning streak with a strong performance and a win at its fifth competition of the 2023 Drum Corps Associates season Saturday night in Allentown.
The Buccaneers is a nonprofit musical organization that was first formed in 1957 as a parade corps by various local junior corps and veterans of World War II and Korea. The group is a charter member of Drum Corps Associates and competes annually for the national championship title.
At the competition Saturday, the Buccaneers scored 85.10 out of a possible 100 points and took top honors in the brass, percussion, music and visual and effects categories. Finishing in second were the Caballeros of Hawthorne, N.J., with 83.25, and placing third were the Bushwackers of Princeton, N.J., with 79.85.
The next competition for the Buccaneers will be at Mount Olive High School in New Jersey on Aug. 19. For ticket information, visit dcacorps.org.
