Reading designates treat-or-treat hours

Trick-or-treating in Reading will take place Oct. 31 from 5 to 8 p.m., the city announced.

Mayor Eddie Moran is asking residents who plan on handing out treats to turn on their porch lights during the designated hours to make it easier for trick-or-treaters to identify participating homes.

The city is asking drivers to be extremely cautious during trick-or-treat hours as children in costumes will be crossing the streets.

To help encourage a safe Halloween experience, the city is offering the following tips:

• Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers.

• Choose face paint and makeup instead of masks to reduce the risk of blocking a child’s vision.

• Make sure costumes are the correct size to prevent trips and falls.

• Have kids carry flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.

• Please keep an eye on the road for vehicles.

• Walk on sidewalks and cross streets at intersections and crosswalks. Don’t walk in the streets.
