Reading firefighters invite public to toy-drive breakfast

Reading firefighters are inviting the public to their annual toy-drive breakfast for the Salvation Army on Friday at Trooper Thorn’s Irish Beef House along Route 10.

Anyone who brings a new unwrapped toy between 7 and 11 a.m. will be entitled to a free breakfast courtesy of Trooper Thorn’s.

The donated toys will be added to those bought with money the firefighters have raised for the annual toy drive. A group of firefighters shopped for toys Wednesday evening at Target in Exeter Township.

For more than a decade, the city firefighters have raised money to buy toys to donate to the Salvation Army of Reading to distribute to families in need.

Last year’s toy drive was canceled due to the pandemic, so the firefighters are happy to return to their roles as Santa’s helpers.

“This is one of those things that a lot of people look forward to at the end of the year,” said firefighter/fire instructor Jason Batz.
