from Reading Hospital – Tower Health
In recognition of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Reading Hospital is offering CT lung cancer screenings on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to noon. Appointments are required to receive a screening, and interested individuals will also need a doctor’s order.
This lung cancer screening is a painless, low-dose CT scan, and it can help to detect lung abnormalities early.
“Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States,” said Shoja Rahimian, DO, Reading Hospital Hematology Oncology. “While this is a staggering statistic, it’s important to know that early detection can increase survival rates up to 90%.”
Consider receiving a lung cancer screening during the Reading Hospital screening event if you meet all of the following criteria:
- Between 50 and 80 years old.
- Currently a smoker or have quit smoking in the past 15 years.
- Have at least a 20-pack-year smoking history. A 20-pack-year smoking history is a measurement of how many cigarettes a person has smoked in their lifetime. A pack-year is calculated by multiplying the number of packs smoked per day by the number of years smoked.
To schedule an appointment for Reading Hospital’s lung cancer screenings, call 1-833-34-TOWER. To obtain a doctor’s order, patients should contact their doctor’s office or use MyTowerHealth if they have it.
