Reading mayor to host annual Three Kings Day toy giveaway

Reading Mayor Eddie Moran will host his annual Three King’s Day celebration toy and giveaway on Jan. 6.

Moran began the traditional celebration in 2020 as a community outreach.

In Puerto Rico, where Moran was born, gift giving takes place on Jan. 6, the Feast of the Epiphany.

Also known as the 12th Day of Christmas and Three Kings Day, the holiday commemorates the biblical story of the three kings, or wise men, who followed a star to the baby Jesus.

Because the kings in the story came bearing gifts, some cultures celebrate by exchanging gifts on the feast day.

Toys will be distributed to children up to14 while they last, Moran said.

Children must be present to receive a toy.

In addition to being sponsored by the mayor, the event is supported by title sponsors Axcess Industries and Customers Bank. Other sponsors include DoubleTree by Hilton hotel Reading, Kuhn Funeral Home, Matos Towing, TK’s Toy Box/Snapo, Reading Area Water Authority, Reading Parking Authority and Reading Recreation Commission.
