Reading woman, 21, charged with homicide after boyfriend’s body found in her bedroom

A 21-year-old Reading woman has been charged with criminal homicide following the discovery last month of her boyfriend’s decomposed body in her bedroom, according to court records.

Alexis Williams was placed in Berks County Jail without bail to await a hearing following arraignment Friday night before District Judge David L. Yoch in Reading Central Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit:

On Aug. 21, officers responded to the 100 block of Buttonwood Street after a 911 call reported a foul odor and an unconscious male. Emergency medical personnel found Guerby Aspervil, 22, dead in the second-floor front bedroom, his face covered in blood and a handgun lying nearby.

A relative had noticed a foul odor coming from the room where Williams and Aspervil slept. She asked another household member to check, and when he opened the door, he saw Aspervil’s lifeless body.

The body showed signs of decomposition, suggesting the death occurred days earlier, according to police.

Investigators reviewed footage from a doorbell camera and nearby surveillance systems. On Aug. 18 around 11:30 p.m., Aspervil and Williams were seen returning home together.

Just hours later, at 4:38 a.m. on Aug. 19, Williams was seen on video running from the residence. Her vehicle, a white Kia Rio, was later tracked by license plate readers traveling south through Georgia and Florida.

Speaking to police after the discovery of the body, a relative told police that she hadn’t seen Williams or Aspervil for several days, which was unusual. Williams explained her absence was due to her “door dashing,” meaning working as a food-delivery contractor.

Williams was in contact with relatives after fleeing Pennsylvania and they persuaded her to return and meet investigators on Aug. 29 in York, where she gave a detailed account of the night of the incident.

She claimed Aspervil had assaulted her and that after an argument and they had sex and she fell asleep.

She awoke to find Aspervil lying on the floor. She got her gun, which she kept by the headboard, and shot her boyfriend in the head before fleeing.

An autopsy conducted in Reading Hospital confirmed Aspervil died of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head. The manner of death was ruled homicide.

Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said investigators initially thought the manner of Aspervil’s death may have been a suicide, but they were still eager to talk to Williams.

After the autopsy findings, however, their interest in speaking with Williams intensified, he said.
