A 44-year-Reading woman was arrested Friday on charges of animal neglect, according to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
“We were called to this property at the City of Reading several weeks ago for a Code Blue violation,“ Sgt. Hayden Carroll, manager of the ARL’s department of animal protection, said in a news release.
Carroll said humane officers found three dogs outside without suitable shelter. One of the dogs appeared unresponsive.
“It was discovered that the canine had various medical conditions that persisted without veterinary care,” Carroll said.
ARL’s medical team determined the dog’s conditions were too severe for treatment, and the animal was humanely euthanized.
The woman, whose name was not released, is charged with neglect for failure to seek veterinarian care and three counts of misdemeanor animal neglect for failure to provide suitable shelter, the release said.
Without a name, the Reading Eagle could not obtain arraignment information.
The Reading Police Department assisted the humane officers in the arrest.
