Reading’s seasonal expanded street sweeping program to begin in April

Reading’s expanded street sweeping program will begin in April.

The intent of the seasonal program is to enhance public health and sanitation in blocks that are not part of the city’s year-round street sweeping program.

This program runs from April to late August.

The so-called “cardboard sign,” or seasonal, routes will be marked with nonpermanent signs.

“These are nonpermanent signs we hang up on the city streets that are not on the permanent street sweeping route,” said Christopher Elia, a supervisor in the city’s Public Works department.

Elia said one side of the blocks on each route will be posted on a Tuesday and swept on a Wednesday, and the opposite side will be posted on that Wednesday and swept on a Thursday.

Vehicles that are not moved in accordance with the posted signs will be ticketed by the Reading Parking Authority.

Tickets will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle and will not be left on windshields.

A list of dates and blocks can be found at www.readingpa.gov/street-sweeping-and-cardboard-route.
