From Berks County Tennis Association

The Berks County Tennis Association would like to announce that current BCTA President and Robesonia native Ryan J. Knarr has been named the 47th President of the USTA Middle States Board of Directors for the 2025-2026 term. USTA Middle States is one of 17 USTA sections in the United States and encompasses over 1.1 million tennis players in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and part of West Virginia.

USTA Middle States hosted their section-wide leadership conference in Reading this past weekend on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Redner’s Event Center at FirstEnergy Stadium.

At 36 years old, Knarr becomes the second-youngest President in the 101-year history of the USTA Middle States organization, second only to Reading native Merv Heller, who was 34 at the time of his USTA Middle States presidency. Heller was also a former USTA National President, a founder of the BCTA, and was named in 1999 one of the 50 more influential sports figures in the past 50 years in Berks County by the Reading Eagle.

Knarr has ascended the tennis ladder at a young age at the local, state, and national levels. An experienced tennis administrator, event director, coach, and entrepreneur, Knarr has served on the USTA Middle States Section Board of Directors for 10 years in addition to serving on the USTA National High School and National Adult Competition Committees.

He serves as the Director of Racquet Sports for the Sinking Spring YMCA and President of the Conrad Weiser Tennis Association. As an accomplished high tennis school coach at Conrad Weiser, he was named the 2021 USPTA National High School Coach of the Year, with an 80% career winning percentage as head coach, as well as the USPTA National U-30 Professional of the Year in 2017.

As a tournament director, he directs two pro tennis events, the Ellesse Pro Tennis Challenge in Wyomissing, PA, which brings together professional men’s tennis players prior to the US Open as well as the Madison Keys Court of Dreams Celebration of Tennis in Iowa. He also directs the largest tennis tournament in PA, the Conrad Weiser Hits for Hope Tournament with 315 unique players and 34 different draws that benefit a different charity each year. He also serves on the administrative staff of the Salzburg Open ATP Challenger tournament each July in his family’s native country of Austria.

As an accomplished player, Knarr has been ranked #1 in USTA Middle States adult year-end rankings a total of 13 times in Men’s Open Doubles and Mixed Open Doubles. He holds over 50 USTA tournament titles in Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles and made his professional debut at the ITF F2 Futures in Austria in 2016. He holds the rare distinction of having played college tennis at the Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 levels, helping lead Millersville University to a Division 2 NCAA Tournament berth in 2011.

Knarr is a resident of Robesonia, PA.
