Schuylkill Haven officials are moving forward to make a modification to grant money originally designed to assist borough renters needing pandemic-related rent assistance.
The borough’s CDBG-CV (COVID-19) funds application window opened in 2021 to renters needing assistance due to the pandemic. Borough Administrator Jessica Seiders, following the Feb. 2 borough council meeting, said that since the window opened, there has been little interest in the program.
As such the borough is modifying the program to allow local businesses to apply for assistance to help them recover from the pandemic.
In other business, resident Edward Ellex asked borough leaders to revisit the community’s cable contract and service providers. The cable committee will be setting a meeting for discussion.
Progress is being made on a borough St. Patrick’s Day parade and downtown celebration of Irish culture to be held on March 19 beginning at noon. The parade is a new initiative with plans for businesses to host activities and offer specials.
Winter Wine & Shine occurs Feb. 19 from 3 to 8 p.m. and will include ice sculpting, ax throwing, a horse-drawn trolley, wine, beer, moonshine and a business open house. Tickets are required.
A Spring Sweep will occur on April 23. Local Boy Scout troops, businesses and other entities are to help clean the Main Street corridor of winter grime.
This year’s Memorial Day parade is scheduled for Monday, May 30 with a service being held on the first block of Parkway.
