The 35th annual Scouting for Food drive was a resounding success, collecting more than 63,000 pounds of food and exceeding the amount donated in 2020, according to Helping Harvest
Members of the Boy Scouts of America Hawk Mountain Council requested that area families leave nonperishable food outside for them to pick up on Saturday morning. Hundreds of Scouts, leaders and their families from across Berks and Schuylkill counties took part in the effort.
The food will help stock the shelves at Helping Harvest, which distributes food to more than 320 programs that feed the hungry in Berks and Schuylkill counties
Scouting for Food is one of two food drives held annually by the Hawk Mountain Council. Annually they bring in more than 140,000 foods for Helping Harvest.
