Sen. John Fetterman released from Pittsburgh hospital after fall

U.S. Sen. John Fetterman was released from a hospital Saturday, two days after he fell near his Braddock home.

The Democratic lawmaker was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital after a ventricular fibrillation issue caused him to fall early Thursday. He stayed in the hospital to work with doctors on “fine-tune his medication regimen,” his office said.

“Upon evaluation, it was established he had a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that led to Senator Fetterman feeling light-headed, falling to the ground and hitting his face with minor injuries,” a spokesperson said earlier this week.

On X, Mr. Fetterman shared a photo of himself smiling with apparent cuts and scrapes on his face: “20 stitches later and a full recovery I’m back home with [Giselle Fetterman] and the kids,” he wrote.

In 2017, Mr. Fetterman, 56, was diagnosed with a decreased heart pump and atrial fibrillation while he was serving as the mayor of Braddock and before he was elected as Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor.

In 2022, just four days before the 2022 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, Mr. Fetterman suffered a stroke.

Mr. Fetterman’s health has been in focus in recent months following a New York magazine article in which former staffers alleged he was not taking his medication and questioned his fitness for office.

He detailed his experience with the stroke and his high-profile mental and physical health issues that followed it in his memoir, “Unfettered,” which was released two days before he was hospitalized.

“I’m overwhelmed and profoundly grateful for all the well-wishes,” Mr. Fetterman said in his statement on X.
