Seven Berks wrestlers win individual tournament titles during second weekend of high school season

Seven Berks wrestlers won individual titles at tournaments that ended Saturday.

Twin Valley’s Ean Winchester won a championship for the second straight week, while Hamburg’s Chase Homan, Berks Catholic’s Andrew Messner, Carmine Lenzi and

Owen Reber, Muhlenberg’s Nicholas Bradbury and Conrad Weiser’s Jerry Garcia also placed first.

In the Penn Manor Tournament at Millersville, Winchester, a senior, pinned La Salle’s Andrew Brennan, the defending District 12 Class 3A champ, in 1:03 in the 285-pound final. He won all four of his matches by pin (13 seconds in the first round, 55 seconds in the quarterfinals and 1:02 in the semis). He earned his 100th career victory in the quarterfinals. He is 102-18.

Winchester won at the Pottstown Invitational on the opening weekend.

Homan, a sophomore, won the 114-pound championship at the Dan Klingerman Invitational at Bloomsburg. He defeated Red Land’s Sam Culp 2-0 in the final. He won each of his other two matches by technical fall.

Messner, Lenzi, Reber, Bradbury and Garcia won titles at the Sam Lovello Invitational at Brandywine Heights.

Messner, a freshman, won the 133-pound title, pinning Blair Academy’s Benjamin Koch in 3:48 in the final.

Lenzi, a junior, won at 172 pounds with a 7-6 decision over Littlestown’s Tanner Rock in the final. He won his other two matches by fall.

Reber, a senior, won the 285-pound championship, pinning Lehighton’s Reese Balk in 1:41 in the final. He also won his other two matches by fall.

Bradbury, a senior, won the 145-pound title. In the final, he won by injury default over Germantown Academy’s Gavri Sabag. He won his other two matches by fall.

Garcia, a senior, won by injury default over Muhlenberg’s Tucker Bellanca in the 215-pound final. He won his first match by pin and his second by technical fall.

Also at Penn Manor, Twin Valley’s Jacob Grzybeck placed sixth at 145 and the Raiders finished 20th out of 30 teams.

Gov. Mifflin and Exeter also competed at Penn Manor.

Placing for the Mustangs: Anthony Montegari, second, 127; Andrew Huesgen, second, 152; Samuel Moyer, fourth, 172; Maddox Noll, sixth, 215; and Daylen Morey, sixth, 285. Mifflin finished seventh.

Placing for the Eagles: Cole Forsythe, second, 107; Kevin Oswalt, third, 189; Michael Borja, third, 139; Ashton Warchol, sixth, 152; and Joseph Henderson, seventh, 145. Exeter finished 14th.

Also for Hamburg at Bloomsburg, Daniel Brady finished second at 145 and Cole Christman was second at 114. The Hawks finished 19th out of 22 teams.

At the 15-team Sam Lovello Invitational, Berks Catholic placed third, Muhlenberg fifth, Conrad Weiser sixth and Brandywine 15th.

Also placing for the Saints: Brayden Hartranft, second, 121; Neil Bitting, fifth, 107; Luke Jordan, fifth, 139; Gabe Iswalt, sixth, 145; and Erie Bennethum, sixth, 189.

Also placing for the Muhls: Mason Zona, second, 189; Javien Cruz, fourth, 114

Efrain Garcia, fourth, 107; and Vinny Cardell, sixth, 172.

Also placing for the Scouts: Davis Keppley, fourth, 152; Dylan Garcia, fourth, 189; Kaleb Britting, fourth, 285; Jarryd Klopp, fifth, 160; and Connor Sellers, sixth, 139.

Jacob Greiss finished fourth for the Bullets at 121 pounds.

In the Brian Bealer Memorial Bear Duals at Boyertown, Wilson and Boyertown each went 4-1.

Wilson beat Council Rock North 42-24, Souderton 55-10 and Perkiomen Valley 51-24 to win its pool. The Bulldogs then beat Pennridge 33-26 before losing 40-23 to Easton, the only team that went 5-0.

Going 5-0 for Wilson were Blaise Eidle, Logan Kurzweg, James Garcia, McKaden Speece and Ryan McMillan.

Boyertown defeated Interboro 65-9 and Conestoga 53-9 before losing to Easton 49-9 to finish second in its pool. The Bears then beat Pennsbury 49-12 and Souderton 47-18.

Going 5-0 for Boyertown were Shane Stankina and Andrew Myslinski.

In the Chuck Springer Memorial Duals at Norristown, Reading High went 1-2.

The Red Knights beat Lower Merion 34-33, and lost to Norristown 50-21 and Plymouth-Whitemarsh 50-10.

Romello Fuentes went 3-0 for Reading High at 215 pounds, winning all three by fall.

Complete results were not available for the Conestoga Valley Duals, in which Daniel Boone competed.
