Several events coming up at Schuylkill County Historical Society

The following events are coming up this summer at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville:

• Household laundry methods from the 1700s to the 1940s are the subject of a program on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 6:30 p.m. Bob Lee of Newmanstown will show and explain the items in his extensive collection of antique equipment. • The Local Reads book club will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30, to discuss “A Case History,” a John O’Hara novella found in the “Gibbsville” and “Assembly” collections. • Vincent Genovese, author of “The Angel of Ashland” and “The Pottsville Maroons and the NFL’s Stolen Championship of 1925,” will discuss and sign copies of his latest book, “Billy, We Hardly Knew Ya,” on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. The book recounts the story of Minersville High School football player William Ulmer, who died during a game in 1943.
