Snowfall is tapering off in Berks County on Saturday morning and the National Weather Service-issued winter weather advisory will end at noon, three hours earlier than in the initial advisory.
The advisory reads, in part: “Strong winds may create areas of blowing and drifting snow. Slow down and use caution while traveling.”
Snowfall totals are within the 1 to 4 inches forecast, with 1.6 inches officially.
Wind gusts at Reading Regional Airport have reached 23 mph.
Met-Ed is reporting a handful of power outages.
The high temperature for the day was likely 27 degrees shortly after midnight.
Expect a bitter overnight with a low temperature in the upper single digits, but wind chills of minus 10, according to AccuWeather. Avoid prolonged exposure outdoors, AccuWeather warns.
On Sunday clouds are expected to gather with a high in the mid-20s, followed by a low near 10 degrees by daybreak Monday.
Then, mostly sunny conditions are expected Monday with a high in the mid-30s and a warming trend for the workweek.
ARL’s Code Blue
The Animal Rescue League of Berks County has enacted the Code Blue Ordinance for Reading running through 6 p.m. Sunday.
Anyone who owns, possesses or has custody of a dog must bring the animal inside their residence for the duration of the code, except for supervised and necessary bathroom breaks and exercise, the order reads.
Noncompliance can result in the animal being removed by an animal control officer from the property and impounded at the Animal Rescue League. Owners will have 48 hours after the code has been lifted to pick up their animal and will be subject to applicable boarding fees, the order reads.
Anyone witnessing an unsupervised dog left outside in the elements in Reading should call the ARL at 610-373-8830.
The Code Blue only applies to Reading, but residents across Berks are urged to abide by it.
