South Schuylkill News Police Reports, Feb. 17

The following information comes from police reports and court records.

DUI on view alcohol: On Feb. 5 about 2:20 a.m. state police pulled over a Jeep for speeding, and the driver, Brandy Meulstee, 34, of Saint Clair, was arrested for DUI.

Crash: On Feb. 4 about 3 p.m. state police responded to an accident on Tremont Road at Spittler Road in Pine Grove Township. An unknown person driving what is believed to be a large black pickup truck or a black SUV was northbound on Tremont Road and tried to turn right onto Spittler Road. The vehicle began to slide and left the road striking a residence at 226 Tremont Road, causing minor damage. The driver left the scene.

Crash: On Feb. 3 about 10:30 a.m. state police responded to an accident on Browns Lane south of Molleystown Road in Tremont Township. Curtis Abell, 31, of Batavia, Ohio, was  trying to turn around in an alleyway when the car slid into a fence. Abell was not injured.

Crash: On Feb. 3 about 2 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Route 61 near Raring Drive in North Manheim Township. Scott Hall, 54, Hamburg, was northbound  on Route 61 in the right lane when an unidentified vehicle in the left lane tried to pass. The driver cut Hall off when he moved to the right lane. Hall swerved to avoid the collision and his vehicl went off the road and struck a tree. Hall and his passenger, Tricia Wyman, 33, Frackville, were transported to Reading Hospital by Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS. State police at Schuylkill Haven ask any witnesses to call 570-754-4600.

Crash: On Feb. 3 about 2:50 p.m. state police responded to an accident on Route 61 near Liberty Street in North Manheim Township. Two tractor-trailers were northbound on Route 61 and both drivers had to brake due to a traffic backlog caused by an accident. The load shifted in the trailer of the truck driven by Arthur Needham, 46, Shenandoah, causing it to slide backward into the front of the truck driven by Tyrone Finklea, 38, Bloomsburg. There were no injuries.

Pedestrian hit: On Feb. 3 about 3 p.m. Michael Bologna, 70, Schuylkill Haven, a fire police official who was wearing reflective clothing, was assisting with traffic control on Route 61 at South Liberty Street in Orwigsburg when he was hit from behind. He was evaluated by EMS at the scene. The driver, Doreen Korell, 63, Orwigsburg, approached him from behind, made contact and left the scene. Korell told state police that she was unaware she had hit Bologna.

Criminal mischief: On Feb. 2 it was reported to state police that someone drove a pickup truck into a Reading Anthracite gate on Bunting and Shober streets in Branch Township. The lock and chain were broken off.

Crash: State police responded to a four-vehicle accident on Route 183 (South Sillyman Street) in Cressona on Feb. 2 about 7 a.m. Barry Berger, 66, Orwigsburg, was pulling onto Sillyman Street from a private driveway and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Gerald Webber, 41, Schuylkill Haven, who was southbound, hit Berger’s car on the rear passenger side, causing Berger’s car to hit the front driver’s side of a pickup driven by Eric Watral, 48, Auburn, and an SUV driven by Janice Kearse, 43, West Lawn. Watral and Kearse were stopped in the northbound lane when the accident happened. Webber was transported to Lehigh Valley East by Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS for his injuries.

DUI on view drugs: On Feb. 2 about 10 a.m., state police arrested Brandon Merwine, 36, Hegins for DUI and possessing drug paraphernalia as a result of an investigation after a traffic stop at the Ravine Truck Stop in Tremont Township.

Crash: On Jan. 25 about 12:15 a.m. state police responded to an accident on Pleasant Valley Road, Route 443, in Pine Grove Township. Kayla Brantlecht, 28, Orwigsburg, was eastbound on Route 143 and lost control of her car on a curve. The car left the road and struck a concrete bridge rail. Brantlecht was transported to Geisinger St. Luke’s, Orwigsburg, by Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS.
