South Schuylkill News Police Reports, June 22, 2023

The following information is taken from police reports and court records.

DUI Checkpoint Results: On June 10, a roving DUI detail was held. A total of 28 vehicles were contacted; five operators were arrested for suspicion of DUI; one was arrested for possession of drugs; one operator was discovered with a warrant; 11 citations and 25 warnings were issued.

Crash: On June 12 at about 5:30 p.m., state police responded to a three-car accident on Route 61 at Route 895 in West Brunswick Township. Jennifer Pothering, 31, Orwigsburg, did not stop for a red light, and her vehicle was struck by a car driven by Penelope Valentine, 60, Orwigsburg. Pothering then struck a stopped tow truck driven by Milton Luckenbill Jr., 48, Auburn. Pothering’s and Valentine’s cars had disabling damage. The tow truck had damage but was functional. Valentine suffered a possible injury, neither Pothering or Luckenbill were injured.

Crash: On June 3 at about 7 a.m., state police responded to a one-car accident on Fair Road west of Bear Creek Road in Wayne Township. Nadia Beck, 20, Auburn, was driving east on Route 895 when she failed to negotiate a right curve. Her car struck a utility pole. It had disabling damage and was towed. Beck had a minor injury but refused transport.

Hit-and-Run: On June 2 at about 1:30 p.m., state police responded to a hit-and-run incident on Berger Road near Birds Hill Road in Pine Grove Township. The operator was seen pushing telephone wires off his truck with a broomstick. The operator fled the scene traveling west on Birds Hill Road. The trailer carrier could not be verified.

Crash: On May 31 at about 9:30 a.m., state police responded to an accident on the Route 901 south of Cressona Road. Kevin Carroll, 38, St. Clair, was driving east on Route 901 when a rear tire fell off his tractor trailer. The tire struck the front end of an SUV driven by Erin Johnson, 33, Pottsville. Johnson’s vehicle had disabling damage and was towed. There were no injuries.

Crash: On May 28 at about 5:40 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Main Street in Landingville. Dean Krammes Jr., Schuylkill Haven, was driving south on the shoulder when his dirt bike hit a dead tree and Krammes was ejected. Krammes attempted to flee on foot and hid in the forested roadside until he was located by first responders. Krammes suffered minor injuries. He was charged with driving under the influence and related traffic offenses.
