South Schuylkill News Police Reports, June 6, 2024

The following information comes from police reports and court records.

DUI Checkpoint: The results of the DUI checkpoint conducted by the state police in Schuylkill Haven on May 24-25 between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.: A total of 85 vehicles were contacted, three operators were arrested for suspicion of DUI and were in possession of drugs, nine citations were issued and nine warnings were issued.

Crash: On May 21 at about 10:10 p.m., state police responded to an accident on Broad Street in Hegins Township. Cole Harner, 26, Valley View, struck a tree. Harner was not injured.

Theft: State police responded to Village Road in West Brunswick Township on May 15. A Schuylkill Haven woman said someone stole $1,500 from her through a cold call gift card-style scam. Police are continuing the investigation and advise people that they will never be asked to pay a bill or settle a debt through the use of gift cards.

Crash: State police responded to an accident on May 15 at about 7:45 a.m. on Route 61 at South Greenview Road. Sherry Akins, 65, Tamaqua, pulled out from a stop sign and struck a car driven by Terri Kriner, 62, Orwigsburg. Akins’ SUV had disabling damage and was towed. Kriner’s Cadillac had minor damage and was driven from the scene. There were no injuries.

Crash: On May 14 at about 6:35 a.m., state police responded to an accident on Long Run Road at South Front Street in Wayne Township. David Good, 61, Pottsville, pulled out from a stop sign and his vehicle was struck by an SUV driven by Timothy Kuzmitsky, 55, Schuylkill Haven, Good’s car had major damage and was driven to a shop adjacent to the scene of the crash. Kuzmitsky’s SUV had disabling damage and was towed. Both drivers reported minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

Crash: On May 14 at about 6:35 a.m., state police responded to an accident on North Tulpehocken Street near Oak Grove Road in Pine Grove. A vehicle driven by Katie Madenford, 33, Joliett, rear-ended one driven by Kristopher Haines, 59, Pine Grove. Madenford’s SUV had disabling damage and was towed. There was minor damage to Haines’ vehicle. Madenford suffered a laceration to her forehead and was transported by Pine Grove EMS to Geisinger St. Luke’s. Haines was not injured.

Crash: State police responded to an accident in Hegins Township on May 12 at about 5:30 p.m. Tyler Styer, 31, Schuylkill Haven, was driving north on Gap Street, crossed the double yellow line and traveled north in the southbound lane. The car then struck a small embankment and a tree. The rear portion of the car traveled up a tree with the front end facing the ground. Styer fled but was identified by the registered owner of the car. The car was towed. There were no reported injuries.

Crash: On May 2 at about 7:10 p.m., state police responded to an accident in Wayne Township. The accident occurred in the area of 1270 S. Route 183 when a van driven by Dylan Reppert, 24, West Lawn, struck a stopped SUV driven by Tanya Elo, 49, Auburnc. Reppert’s van was towed due to disabling damage. Elo’s SUV was driven from the scene. There were no injuries. Reppert was cited for following too closely.
