Schuylkill Youth Hunter Education Challenge sent 21 competitors to the annual Pennsylvania YUEC State competition in State College on June 18.

The Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that for 49 years had required states to allow women to have abortions. Whoever is elected to replace Gov. Wolf will play a critical role in the future of abortion in Pennsylvania.

New proposals from state Sen. Lisa Boscola to temporarily get rid of Pennsylvania’s ultra-high gasoline and diesel fuel taxes would keep about $460 million in consumers’ pockets over a two-month stretch.

Reading’s Opportunity House and its Supportive Services for Veteran Families program provides assistance to veterans and their family members in Schuylkill, Berks and Lancaster counties.

Gov. Tom Wolf signed a $45 billion budget deal that provides a one time $140 million increase in the state’s Property Tax Rent Relief program.

Families can schedule Pfizer-BioNTech vaccinations for children age 6 months to 4 years by appointment only at specific vaccine clinics in Schuylkill, Monroe and Luzerne counties.

Orwigsburg police officer Robert Bechtel was recognized at the borough council meeting on July 13 for saving the life of Timothy Osborne of Ridgeview Drive. When Osborne experienced breathing issues that resulted in cardiac arrest, Bechtel arrived at his home and began CPR, hooked him up to a defribrillator and continued CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Pennsylvania’s use of unmanned cameras to enforce speeds in active work zones have been in use for more than two years. It is believed to be making a difference. in keeping workers and travelers safe, reducing crashes, and changing dangerous driving habits.

The 2022-23 state budget recently approved by the General Assembly includes a $200 million increase for safety and mental health needs in Schuylkill County schools, state Sen. David G. Argall announced.

Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to issue $2,000 checks to some Pennsylvania households was not included in the recently passed state budget.

A woman who pleased guilty to fatally stabbing Patrick Murphy, a prominent Pottsville businessman in a New Orleans hotel room could serve less than eight years in prison after she had the majority of her sentence suspended as part of a plea deal.

A resident and pastor in Schuylkill Haven expressed her concern about sky lanterns and potential fires that could be caused by the popular luminous devices.
