State police seek owner of German pointer in attack of dog in Berks

State police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man whose unleashed medium-sized dog attacked a small-breed dog whose owner had it on a leash along Route 183 near Bernville.

The incident happened Friday about 3 p.m. when the victim stopped with her dog, a bichon/poodle mix, to check out a sunflower field along Route 183 near Old Church Road in Penn Township.

According to troopers:

As she was leaving with her dog on a leash, an unidentified man had his two unleashed dogs nearby. One was described as a golden retriever and the other as a German shorthaired pointer.

Without provocation, the pointer attacked her dog, biting and seriously injuring it. The retriever did not bite the bichon.

The man left without providing his identification to the victim. She described him only as a white man about 6 feet tall with brown hair.

Information about the condition of the victim’s dog was unavailable.

Troopers are seeking tips to identify a man who drives a Ford F-150 pickup truck and has a German shorthaired point and a golden retriever. They released a security camera image of the truck.

Anyone who knows someone who fits that description is asked to call the state police Reading station at 610-378-4011.
