State police seeking Camp Cadet candidates

Reading-based state police Troop L is seeking candidates for Camp Cadet, which will be held Aug. 12-19 at Camp Manatawny near Douglassville.

Camp Cadet is a police-oriented summer camp for boys and girls 12 to 15 years old. All camp activities are supervised by a counseling staff of state and local law enforcement personnel.

Candidates must reside in Berks, Lebanon or Schuylkill counties, the areas served by Troop L.

Cadets will see presentations by law enforcement, including bomb squad, SWAT-type, patrol, K-9, aviation, FBI and computer crime investigators.

Non-law-enforcement presentations include water rescue and fire service.

Cadets also participate in activities such as marksmanship, swimming, horseback riding, volleyball and kickball.

Applications can be found at www.campcadettroopl.com, the Camp Cadet Troop L Alumni Facebook page, or by stopping at any of the Troop L stations — Reading, Hamburg, Jonestown, Frackville, and Schuylkill Haven.

Applications must be returned by May 31.

Cost for camp is $200 plus a $10 application fee.
