A suspect in a string of package thefts was arrested in Leesport, Northern Berks Regional police reported Friday.
Luis Enrique Meza Saavedra of New York City was arrested on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, police said in a release.
According to the release:
On Friday morning, Northern Berks officers were alerted by a resident about a suspicious vehicle in the Willow Glen neighborhood in Leesport.
The vehicle matched the description of a vehicle believed to be responsible for a rash of package thefts in the area.
Officers found the vehicle and made contact with Saavedra, who they confirmed was the suspect in the previous package thefts.
Saavedra was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail following arraignment before District Judge David L. Yoch.
Northern Berks police cover Leesport, as well as Maidencreek and Ontelaunee townships.
