Three Berks County football players are among 55 players from across the state who were named winners of the Maxwell Football Club’s Mini Max High School Award for Pennsylvania.
Gov. Mifflin running back Nick Singleton, Conrad Weiser quarterback Logan Klitsch and Hamburg running back Diohnny Ruiz are eligible to be named the Pennsylvania Player of the Year. The winner will be announced Jan. 20.
The winner of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware player of the year awards will be the finalists for the 36th annual Jim Henry Award as the outstanding player in the region. The winner of that award will be announced Feb. 2.
Singleton, who signed to play at Penn State, rushed for 2,059 yards and 41 touchdowns and led Gov. Mifflin to a 10-1 record, the Berks Football League Section 1 title and the District 3 Class 5A championship game. He was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year last week.
Klitsch, who’s headed to Dartmouth, completed 65.4% of his passes for 2,405 yards and 24 touchdowns. He rushed for 691 yards and 20 touchdowns and led Conrad Weiser to a 7-4 record and a District 3 Class 4 playoff berth.
Ruiz rushed for 1,313 yards, caught 20 passes for 305 yards, scored 21 touchdowns and led Hamburg to a 7-4 record, including its first District 3 playoff victory.
