Trout season is just around the corner, and the state Fish and Boat Commission has already started getting ready.
Trout stocking operations began this week in waterways across the state, including in Berks County. Stocking is taking place earlier this year to accommodate an earlier start to the spring trout season, which will begin statewide April 2.

A Mentored Youth Trout Day will take place before the opening of the season, being held on March 26.
In Berks, trout stocking kicked off Wednesday with Scotts Run Lake at French Creek State Park in Union Township. Over 2,400 brook trout and over 1,000 brown trout were placed in the water.
Seven other sites in Berks are slated to be stocked this week. A total of 32 locations will be stocked during the state’s stocking operations.
Across Pennsylvania, about 3.2 million adult trout will be stocked in 696 streams and 128 lakes. That number includes about 2.2 million rainbow trout, 686,000 brown trout and 293,000 brook trout.
