Trout stocking underway in Schuylkill Haven

A popular activity is returning for Schuylkill Haven-area anglers. The borough’s recreation department is participating in trout stocking of Stoyer’s Dam and Bubeck Park.

“Schuylkill Haven Borough Council is proud to partner with Schuylkill Headwaters in stocking at Bubeck Park and Island Park,” council President Jerry Bowman said at the April 3 borough council meeting. “We hope to give anglers recreational fishing and establish a native trout population for generations to come.”

He said stocking would begin April 6 and 7.

In other business, the borough has been awarded a $300,000 Department of Community and Economic Development Multimodal Transportation Grant. Borough administrator Jessica Seiders said the funds will be used to improve curbs, sidewalks and accessible ramps along Parkway.

A Walk, Wine, and Wander event was approved for June 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a rain date of June 20. The event will feature wine tasting, music, food, and vendors and is overseen by the Greater Schuylkill Haven Area Business Association.

Other upcoming borough events include an electronic recycling event on May 11, the Schuylkill River Sojourn on June 14 and a hard-to-read license plate replacement event on July 31. Events being planned for the autumn including a Corvette show on Sept. 15, Borough Day on Sept. 28 and the Halloween parade on Oct. 29.
