Tulpehocken advances to PIAA team golf championships in Class 2A

Tulpehocken advanced to the PIAA team championships for the first time in school history with a 330-339 victory over District 5 champ Conemaugh Township in a Class 2A sub-regional Tuesday at Iron Masters Country Club in Roaring Spring.

“It’s a great feeling and a great accomplishment for this team,” Tulpehocken coach J.D. Ricapito said in an email. “They are writing school history. We were the second Tulpehocken golf team to win a division, but since then we have had a series of firsts.

“We are the first Tulpy golf team to win districts and the first Tulpy golf to win a regional tournament and advance to states. These players put a lot of hard work in over the summer and it really shows.”

Zach Neuin led the District 3 Class 2A champion Trojans with a 3-over 75. Lewis Dieffenbach and Zach Crampton each shot 84, while Marshal Wessner shot 87 for Tulpehocken.

“The nice thing about this team is that it really is a TEAM,” Ricapito said. “Throughout the playoffs Ethan Beidler has been the senior captain leading this team with great scores. He had a tough round today, which happens, but I talked to him after and he said, ‘My teammates have my back.’

“All five players can contribute at any time and that’s why this team has been very successful this year so far.”

Sam Sharbaugh led the Indians with a 76. Ben Steinbeck shot 77, Hayden Miller 92 and Alex Boring 94.

Tulpehocken won its first district team title last week.

The PIAA team championships in Class 2A will be held Oct. 18 at Penn State’s White Course.
