The United States lost to Australia 3-0 in their third match in the women’s field hockey tournament today at the Paris Olympics.
The U.S. is now 0-2-1 in Pool B play. There are 12 teams in the tournament with six countries in a pool. The top four finishers in each advance pool advance to the quarterfinals.
With one loss and one tie through their first two wins of the tournament, the Eagles sat fifth in Pool B coming into Wednesday’s matchup, two points behind No. 4 Great Britain.
Australia secured a spot in the knockout round with the victory.
Australia led 1-0 after the first quarter and 2-0 at halftime.
The U.S. field hockey team members from Berks are Ashley Hoffman (Twin Valley), Kelee Lepage (Twin Valley), Phia Gladieux (Oley Valley), Karlee Kisha (Hamburg) and Meredith Sholder, who played at Emmaus but hails from Berks County.
The U.S. plays its fourth match of pool play Thursday at 11 a.m. against Great Britain and it will be shown on USA network and streamed on Peacock.
The Eagles need a win against Great Britain to remain in quarterfinals contention.
