Union to start 2026 season on Feb. 21 in D.C.

The Philadelphia Union have business still to attend to in 2025, but its 2026 schedule is out.

The Union will start the 2026 MLS season on Feb. 21 with a trip to D.C. United. The home opener is Sunday, March 1 against New York City FC, the team it plays in Sunday’s Eastern Conference quarterfinals.

MLS released its full schedule Thursday. It includes seven weeks off for the World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Union have a break of nearly two months from late May to late July. That break starts after a May 24 visit to Inter Miami on a Sunday night Fox game. They resume July 22 at home against the New York Red Bulls.

The latter game starts the longest homestand of the season, with a July 25 visit from Seattle and Atlanta arriving Aug. 1. The Union have five instances of consecutive road games but no more than two in a row.

The Union have a busy finish to the season, with a midweek game in the penultimate week of the season at Nashville on Oct. 28. They visit FC Cincinnati on Oct. 31 to cap six games in October, then Decision Day is in Chester against Toronto on Nov. 7. The default home game start time remains 7:30 p.m.

Like last year, the Union have six inter-league affairs. They host San Jose March 7, Seattle July 25 and Real Salt Lake Oct. 10. They visit Austin Aug. 22, San Diego for the first time in club history Sept. 13 and Sporting Kansas City Sept. 19.

The Union’s home date with Inter Miami is Aug. 19, a Wednesday night.

The playoffs will begin after the November international break and will proceed without interruption, as has been the norm in MLS’s poorly designed system. The final, on a date to be announced, will be in December. MLS is switching to the European calendar in 2027; that year will begin with a transitional season in the spring from about February to May.
