Union forward Tai Baribo and defender Jakob Glesnes were named to the MLS All-Star team on Wednesday.
The two Union players will be part of the team that takes on a Liga MX All-Star delegation on July 23 at Q2 Stadium in Austin.
Baribo, currently out with a calf injury, is the MLS leader in goals this season with 13. He landed on the team via a public vote by media, fans and players that named 12 of the 26 players.
The Israeli international, who sat the bench for a year before his first start last June, scored 16 goals in all competitions to end last year and has begun this year in the same vein of form. The winner of the Golden Boot at the 2024 Leagues Cup is just the fourth player in MLS history to score 13 goals in the first 15 games of the season.
Glesnes is an All-Star for the third time, selected by Austin head coach Nico Estevez, who will lead the All-Star team. He’s had a bounce-back season after a disappointing 2024 across the board for the Union defense. He has made 17 appearances (16 starts) this season. After the team allowed 55 goals in 34 games last season, they’ve conceded 19 goals in 18 games this season, entering Wednesday night’s match with Chicago.
Glesnes, 31, was an All-Star in 2022 and 2023. He was the MLS Defender of the Year in 2022.
The Union have 37 points from their first 18 matches to sit atop the Eastern Conference. They had no All-Stars in 2024 after having multiple All-Stars each of the previous three years and All-Stars in four straight seasons.
