Vigil set for teen fatally shot in Reading’s City Park

A vigil is planned for this evening at the Peace Dove sculpture in City Park to honor the 19-year-old victim of a fatal shooting in the park this week.

Rafael Tinoco-Villagomez died in Reading Hospital after being shot by an unidentified person Wednesday night, Reading police said.

Organizers are hoping the vigil will draw attention to the problem of gun violence in the city.

According to police:

Officers responded about 9:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Washington Street in the area of the park for a report of a shooting. They found Tinoco-Villagomez suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators determined the shooting happened during a gathering at the park.

No description of the shooter was available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Reading police at 610-655-6116.
