What to know about the teams in Division I of the Berks Girls Basketball League in 2023-24

Berks Catholic

Coach: Bob Birmingham, 13th season, 238-98 (637-304 overall, including 22 seasons at Holy Name).

Last season: 12-0 Berks I, 20-8; District 3 Class 4A third-place, PIAA Class 4A qualifier.

PIAA classification: Class 4A.

Top players: All-division G Madison Langdon, all-division G Molly McFadden, F Sydney Corado, G Gianna Roberts.

Outlook: With four returning starters, the Saints look to contend for division, county and district titles.

Wilson

Coach: Chris Gallo, fourth season, 41-25.

Last season: 9-3 Berks I, 15-9.

PIAA classification: Class 6A.

Top players: All-Berks G Laila Jones, all-division Violet Houck, senior Jasilyn Moncada.

Outlook: The Bulldogs will try to build off of last season and return to the playoffs.

Gov. Mifflin

Coach: Mike Clark, 12th season, 191-96 (284-114 overall, including four seasons at Oley Valley).

Last season: 8-4 Berks I, 10-13.

PIAA classification: Class 6A.

Top players: All-division F Taylor Koening, G Keira Estrada.

Outlook: Despite having just one returning starter, the Mustangs are poised to get back to the District 3 playoffs for the first time in two years.

Reading High

Coach: Rashida Suber, fourth season, 33-32.

Last season: 7-5 Berks I, 14-11; Berks runner-up.

PIAA classification: Class 6A.

Top players: All-division senior Heavenli Franklin.

Outlook: The Red Knights will look to compete within the county.

Muhlenberg

Coach: Westley Giddens, second season.

Last season: 3-9 Berks I, 8-14.

PIAA classification: Class 5A.

Top players: Peyton Brill, Sophia Fernandez, Lianna Martir, Alexis Garl.

Outlook: The Muhls took to be competitive within Berks I.
