Who to watch, what to know for Tuesday’s PIAA boys soccer first-round games involving Berks teams

Class 1A first round: 4-1 East Juniata vs 3-2 Tulpehocken, 5 p.m. at Selinsgrove.

Class 2A first round: 4-1 Lewisburg vs 3-2 Oley Valley, 7 p.m., at Midd-West.

Class 3A first round: 12-1 Archbishop Wood vs 3-3 Fleetwood, 3 p.m., at Ukrainian Americans Sports Center.

Tulpehocken (16-5-2) vs East Juniata (12-6-3)

The Trojans

Who to watch: Goalkeeper Brayden Evans, an All-Berks pick, has allowed more than one goal in just three matches this season and has helped the Trojans post 15 shutouts.

What to know: The Trojans are making their second straight appearance and 17th since 1974. Beat Mountain View 6-0 in opener last year. … Have allowed only 11 goals this season.

The Tigers

Who to watch: Rowan Smith scored the decisive goal in the Tigers’ 1-0 victory over Southern Columbia in the District 4 final.

What to know: Won the District 4 championship as the No. 5 seed.

Oley Valley (16-6-1) vs Lewisburg (17-1-1)

The Lynx

Who to watch: Anthony Witt is second in Berks and leads Oley Valley with 47 points this season.

What to know: The Lynx lost to 2-0 eventual champion Lewisburg in last year’s semifinals. … Making seventh appearance overall.

The Green Dragons

Who to watch: Alfred Romano leads the team with nine goals.

What to know: In addition to winning the state championship last season, also won in 2015 and ’16.

Fleetwood (17-6) vs Archbishop Wood (11-2-1)

The Tigers

Who to watch: Davin Millisock leads the Tigers with eight goals.

What to know: Making first appearance since 2019, when lost 3-2 to New Hope-Solebury in the first round, and 25th appearance since 1976. .. Berks champs fell in the District 3 semifinals to eventual champion Hershey.

The Vikings

Who to watch: Enzo Petruzelli scored two goals in a 5-1 win over Franklin Towne in the District 12 final.

What to know: Made states every year from 2016-19, but missed last season when the field was cut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
