Wilson, Berks Catholic, Twin Valley, High Point lose District 3 girls volleyball semifinals

Berks League champion Wilson fell short in its bid to return to the District 3 Class 4A girls volleyball championship match, losing 3-1 in a semifinal Thursday night at top-seeded Cumberland Valley.

The fourth-seeded Bulldogs (20-2) opened with a 26-24 win in the first set before the Eagles (15-1) took the next three sets 25-22, 25-17, 25-18.

Wilson will play third-seeded Elizabethtown, a 3-0 semifinal loser to No. 2 Hempfield, in a PIAA seeding match Saturday at a time and site to be determined. Cumberland Valley, ranked ninth in the state by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association, will meet defending champion Hempfield for the title Saturday.

York Suburban 3, Berks Catholic 1: At York, the third-seeded Saints (20-3) battled the second-seeded Trojans (23-0) before falling 25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23 in a District 3 Class 3A semifinal.

Caroline Reedy had 17 kills and two blocks for Berks Catholic, Kate Barbon had nine kills, 19 digs and 39 assists, Jillian Avadanian had 28 digs, five assists and three aces and Delaney Jack had four kills, four blocks, 13 digs and one ace.

York Suburban is ranked first in the state in 3A by the PVCA.

The Saints will face Twin Valley Saturday at a time and site to be determined for a berth in the PIAA Tournament.

Spring Grove 3, Twin Valley 0: At Spring Grove, the top-seeded Rockets (23-1) swept the fifth-seeded Raiders 25-7, 25-19, 25-14 in a District 3 Class 3A semifinal.

Alyssa Green had 12 assists and 11 digs for Twin Valley (18-6), which will play Berks Catholic Saturday for third place and a berth in the PIAA Tournament at a time and site to be determined. Emma Lessick had eight kills and six digs for the Raiders and Juliet Simmet had five kills and two digs.

Spring Grove is ranked second in the state in 3A by the PVCA.

Lititz Christian 3, High Point 0: At Lititz, No. 5 seed High Point (10-7) dropped three straight sets to Lititz Christian (20-2) in a District 3 Class 1A semifinal.

Lititz Christian will play Covenant Christian or Mount Calvary Christian for the title Saturday.
