Wilson, Hamburg, Exeter, Twin Valley earn wins in Berks softball quarterfinals

No. 1 Wilson 5, No. 5 Conrad Weiser 4

Top-seeded Wilson held off Conrad Weiser on Saturday to pick up a win in a Berks softball quarterfinal at Lyons Field.

The Bulldogs (18-3) led 5-2 heading into the seventh inning before allowing the Scouts (9-10) to score two runs. However, Conrad Weiser was unable to tie the game.

Wilson first baseman Madi Farrell hit a solo home run and shortstop Tatum Werley and center fielder Kaya Werley each hit doubles. Seven different Bulldogs recorded a hit.

Wilson starting pitcher Meghan Farrell tossed 5 2/3 innings and picked up the win, as the Bulldogs never trailed. She allowed two runs on four hits and struck out eight.

At the plate, Meghan Farrell went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored.

Madi Farrell entered the game in relief of her sister and pitched 1 1/3 innings. She allowed two runs on four hits.

Pitcher Abigail Frantz took the loss for the Scouts. Shortstop Alex Trevena went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk.

Wilson will take on Twin Valley in the semifinals on Monday at 5 p.m. at Lyons Field. The Raiders beat the Bulldogs 7-6 on May 6 and have won 10 straight games.

No. 2 Hamburg 12, No. 7 Fleetwood 2

Hamburg earned a dominant win over Fleetwood in five innings in a Berks softball quarterfinal on Saturday at Laureldale.

All nine players in Hamburg’s starting lineup recorded a hit and the Hawks had 17 after five innings. Third baseman Jenna Shuman went 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Molly Krick went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, a run scored and a walk.

Hailey Strunk pitched five innings for Hamburg (18-3) and picked up the win. She allowed two runs and struck out one.

Pitcher Sophia Breidegam took the loss for the Tigers (10-9). She allowed two hits, three walks and five earned runs without retiring a batter.

Hamburg will take on Exeter in the semifinals on Monday at 7 p.m. at Lyons Field.

No. 3 Exeter 7, No. 6 Berks Catholic 0

Exeter began its playoff run with a big win over Berks Catholic in a Berks softball quarterfinal on Saturday night at Laureldale.

Starter Cheyenne Boyles tossed a complete-game shutout for the Eagles (17-4). She scattered three hits and struck out five.

Exeter’s offense supported Boyles with several big hits. Center fielder Taylor Hill went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, left fielder Mackenzie O’Brien hit an RBI double and second baseman Katelyn Stanley went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Saints pitcher Dani Hayward took the loss. Hayward allowed seven runs, only four of which were earned, in six innings. Berks Catholic (13-6) finished with three errors.

No. 4 Twin Valley 3, No. 5 Kutztown 1

Twin Valley took an early lead and held on to beat Kutztown in a Berks softball quarterfinal on Saturday night at Lyons Field.

The Raiders (14-5) scored two runs in the second inning and one in the sixth. Shortstop Maggie Krall finished with a triple and run scored.

Twin Valley pitcher Erin Cromwell allowed just one unearned run in seven innings to pick up the win. She scattered four hits and struck out three.

Pitcher Brianna Bauscher took the loss for the Cougars (15-6). She allowed three runs, two of which were earned, and six hits.
