Wilson qualifies for PIAA Tournament in boys basketball with victory over York

Wilson qualified for the PIAA Tournament for the first time since 2020 with a 67-58 victory over York in the District 3 Class 6A seventh-place game Thursday at York.

The seventh-seeded Bulldogs (19-9) outscored the fourth-seeded Bearcats 33-23 over the middle two quarters to earn the district’s final state berth.

Madyx Gruber led Wilson with 23 points. Cam Jones had 11, including eight in the fourth quarter, and Seamus Breslin finished with 13, six in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs went 9-for-11 from the line in the final quarter and 17-for-21 overall.

Gruber went 3-for-4 in the fourth quarter, 7-for-8 overall. Breslin was 4-for-4 in the fourth and 5-for-6 overall, and Jones was 2-for-2, both in the fourth.

Wilson led 15-14 after a quarter, then expanded that to 39-31 at the half and 48-37 after three.

Jacere Vega led York (18-7) with 19 points. Daveyon Lydner had 17 and David Warde 15.

The Bulldogs will travel to play the District 7 champion in the first round of states on Saturday, March 11.
