Wilson’s Kayla Maletto, Daniel Boone’s Chase Yenser named Berks Players of the Year in golf

Wilson’s Kayla Maletto has been named the Berks Player of the Year in girls golf for the third time, while Daniel Boone’s Chase Yenser has earned Berks Player of the Year honors in boys golf in a vote of the league’s golf coaches.

Tulpehocken’s J.D. Ricapito has been named Coach of the Year after leading the Trojans to an 11-4 record in Berks II, 15-4 overall. The Trojans won the second division title in program history, their first District 3 Class 2A title and qualified for states for the first time, finishing sixth.

Maletto, a senior and the reigning and three-time BCIAA individual champion, is a four-time selection. She was named Player of the Year as a freshman and as a junior, when she also won the county title; her sophomore season was cut short due to injury.

She won the District 3 Class 3A title this year for the second straight season and finished sixth in Class 3A at the PIAA Golf Championships to earn her first state medal.

Yenser, a sophomore, won the BCIAA individual title as well as the District 3 Class 3A title before finishing 28th in Class 3A at the PIAA Golf Championships. He is a repeat selection.

Twin Valley senior Shayne O’Doherty and Hamburg junior Erica Gerner are three-time selections. Gerner won the District 3 Class 2A title.

Hamburg senior Austin Zweizig and Fleetwood senior Ryan Hromiak are repeat selections.

Completing the 12-member team are Berks Catholic sophomore Braedan Stringer, Exeter freshman Giulia Weisser, Fleetwood freshman Cameron Peffel, Gov. Mifflin junior Nate Radwanski, Tulpehocken senior Ethan Beidler and Wilson senior Gavin Siravo.
