Win streak ends for Reading Fightin Phils

After winning the first two games of a six-game series with the Somerset Patriots, the Reading Fightin Phils dropped the third game, 4-1, on Thursday night.

The Patriots got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single from Tyler Hardman that scored Garrett Martin while also advancing Cole Gabrielson to third.

Following that, Alexander Varagas grounded out to first which allowed Gabrielson to score make it 2-0.

Reading (2-4) got on the board in the top of the fifth when Luis Verdugo grounded out to first which brought home Caleb Ricketts home to make it 2-1.

It did not take too long for the Patriots to extend their lead. In the bottom of the fifth Jesus Rodriguez singled to score Max Burt to make it 3-1.

Somerset scored again in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI single from Spencer Jones that scored Varags and the score read.

Somerset pitcher Cam Schlittler (1-0) got the win while Reading’s Jean Cabrera (0-1) took the loss.

The Fightin Phils return to the field on Friday at 6:35 p.m. in the fourth game of the series.

Lefty Braeden Fausnaught will start for Reading and go against righty Baron Stuart.
