Wind advisories issued for southeastern Pennsylvania as Debby remnants move out [Updated]

The National Weather Service issued wind advisories Thursday afternoon for Friday, Aug. 9.

In Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon and Monroe counties it will be in effect between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. There will be southeast winds from 15 to 25 mph with occasional gusts of 40 to 50 mph expected.

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,” the advisory said. “Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.”

The advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. Southeast winds from 10 to 20 mph with occasional gusts of 45 to 50 mph are expected.

“Frequent gusts of 35 to 45 mph winds will be possible which when combined with saturated grounds will have the potential to bring down trees,” the advisory continued, again noting the potential for power outages.

A flood watch is in effect from 2 a.m. Friday through late Friday for Lancaster, Lebanon, Schuylkill and York counties. In that area, the remnants of Debby will bring heavy rainfall through early Saturday morning, the NWS stated.

“Widespread rainfall accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected with locally higher amounts of 6 to 7 inches possible,” NWS said.

Thursday evening, the NWS issued a flash flood warning for the Coatesville, Downingtown and Kennett Square areas until 10 p.m.
