The Wyomissing football team had picture perfect weather Saturday afternoon for its Homecoming game against Daniel Boone, and the Spartans delivered a resounding performance in all phases of play on the way to a 42-6 win over the Blazers.
Wyomissing is 4-0 in Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and 6-1 overall, while Daniel Boone is still searching for its first win.
For the Spartans, fullback and linebacker Tyler Niedrowski came ready to play on both sides of the ball and then some, as the junior recorded three first half scores: a rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown and forced a safety. He also had three sacks.

“I said to him, did you eat your Wheaties today?” Wyomissing coach Bob Wolfrum said. “His motor is always running. He had a heck of a game.”
Going for momentum early on in the game, the Blazers attempted an onside kick on the opening kickoff that did not reach the required distance for eligibility, thus giving the Spartans the ball at Daniel Boone 48.
From there, Wyomissing wasted little time getting on the board, as a 15-yard touchdown run by Derek Macrina completed a 6-play, 48-yard scoring drive.

After helping the Blazers pick up a couple of first downs on their opening drive, junior quarterback Haydn Moyer had a dump off pass intercepted by senior lineman Keaton Piacine near the line of scrimmage.

Moments later, Niedrowski picked up his first of three first-half scores on a 10-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Teddy White. The score made it 14-0 with 3:23 left in the first quarter. As Wolfrum alluded, Niedrowski indeed ate his metaphorical Wheaties, as a motivational breakfast lit a spark.
“So we have breakfast at the church with the dads,” Niedrowski said. “They all make us breakfast, and they give a little motivational speech before the game. I got really amped up from that and I really feel like that pushed me today.”
Daniel Boone failed to pick up a first down on its next possession and Justice Hardy made the most after the Spartans took over at midfield. It took just one play for Hardy to take a run 50 yards for the third touchdown of the game. A missed extra point made it 20-0 after the first quarter.
Following a fumble that gave the Blazers the ball deep in their own territory, Niedrowski electrified the home crowd on hand as he chased down Moyer into the end zone and came up with a safety with 6:21 left in the second quarter. Moyer and the Daniel Boone offense had the ball at the Blazers’ 10 on the play.
“So I get in the backfield and I’m scared because he’s an athletic quarterback,” Niedrowski said. “I’m worried that he’s gonna go outside of me and he does and I slip on his leg, but then I get back up and I make my first safety. I just felt amped up and I love that (feeling).”
Niedrowski got it done on the ground on the ensuing possession with a 12-yard rushing touchdown and, following a missed extra point, the Spartans held a 28-0 lead.
Late in the second quarter, Hardy scored his second and final touchdown of the game on a 39-yard touchdown run with 1:47 to go in the opening half. Hardy led all rushers with 91 rushing yards in the first half and finished with 91 yards. Junior running back Daniel Fleischood had 71 rushing yards in the first half.

Wyomissing had 233 rushing yards in the first half and held Daniel Boone to near negative yards of total offense through the opening two quarters.
“We’re still a little sloppy at times,” Wolfrum said. “Our counter game is working very well but we got to get our straight power stuff better. We give up too many bad plays on that, but when we give them a little misdirection we’re tough to stop. We did that part of the game well and a lot of the holes were really big.”
With the running clock on in the second half, Wyomissing took around seven minutes off the clock on a drive that was capped off with an explosive run on fourth and goal from the 15. Though fairly far away from the end zone, junior Marcus Armistead found some holes on the left side following a misdirection call and ran it in untouched for the score.
The Blazers recorded their lone score after a muffed punt by the Spartans gave Daniel Boone the ball in the Wyomissing red zone.
With great field position, back up quarterback sophomore Dominic Stoudt threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to starting quarterback Haydn Moyer to put the Blazers on the board. The two-point conversion pass attempt was no good.
Daniel Boone finished with 52 passing yards and 77 total yards, while Wyomissing had 30 passing yards and 299 rushing yards.
Heading into Week 8’s highly anticipated matchup against undefeated Twin Valley, Niedrowski said he believed Saturday’s test against Daniel Boone’s skilled quarterback will help prepare for a tough matchup with the Raiders and their dual-threat quarterback Evan Myers.
“I’m extremely excited,” Niedrowski said about the matchup, “but really what we need to do is just play our game. I think we showed that today by playing really well on both sides of the ball. We haven’t done that a lot this year, so this was kind of like a test for us, because they also have an athletic quarterback in Twin Valley. I really think we did really well.”
