Wyomissing’s Armistead, Brewer and Gov. Mifflin’s Moyer win titles at Gov. Mifflin Holiday Wrestling Tournament

Three Berks wrestlers won individual titles at the Gov. Mifflin Individual Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Wyomissing seniors Marvin Armistead and Caleb Brewer and Gov. Mifflin senior Samuel Moyer took first place in their respective weight classes at Shillington.

Armistead won the 139-pound title, defeating Upper Perkiomen senior Brandon Rozanski 3-1. Armistead advanced by pinning his first three opponents.

“Coach (Frank) Ferrandino and his coaching staff, they push me at practice every day,” Armistead said. “It’s great to have those coaches around in my corner and keep pushing me every day.”

After wrestling for Berks Catholic the past three seasons, Armistead, along with his younger brother Marcus, transferred to Wyomissing prior to the school year. He is 9-0 this season with five victories via fall.

“The Wyomissing family and community is the best thing in the world,” Armistead said. “I love it here so much. I’m so thankful for the friends and family and coaches that I have now.”

Moyer took the 160-pound title, pinning Kennard-Dale sophomore Michael Schmit in 2:51. Moyer pinned his first two opponents before winning 8-6 in the semifinals.

“It means a lot,” Moyer said about earning the victory at home. “Pulling out the win is a nice little boost of morale to the whole team.”

Moyer is 13-4 on the season with 10 pins. He leads the Mustangs in victories.

“Relying on my teammates and myself to push each other (has been key),” Moyer said. “It’s just a constant grind with this sport.”

Brewer won the title at 285 pounds, pinning Gov. Mifflin senior Daylen Morey in 5:49 mark. Brewer pinned all four of his opponents to win his second straight championship at the tournament, which featured 21 teams from Pennsylvania and Delaware.

“I’m really happy,” Brewer said. “I work hard.”

Brewer, a Penn State football commit, is 9-0 this season, all by pin. He is tied with Armistead for the team lead in victories.

“It’s just a great thing,” Brewer said. “My accomplishments are coming now that I’ve been working so hard.”
