June 1

The Myerstown plant of roofing manufacturer GAF and Bachman’s Roofing, Solar & Remodeling in Wernersville partnered to provide the roof for a new facility at the REd Creek Wildlife Center as the organization rebuilds its headquarters after a devasting fire.

Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School students took to Rotary Field in May to help fight pediatric cancer during the school’s seventh annual Mini-THON event.

Blue Mountain High School student Katie Troch won first place in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition.

June 8

A Pennsylvania state historical marker was unveiled and dedicated June 3 at Fighter’s Heaven, the former training camp of Muhammad Ali near Deer Lake.

Fire crews were dispatched at 5:35 a.m. for a fire in the 1000 block of Indian Drive in Wayne Township. Firefighters discovered two deceased victims – later identified as Renee Bentley, 52 and Michael Dellock, 54 –while knocking down flames inside the house.

A Pine Grove resident is $10,000 richer after a visit to Sin City. Eugene Melocheck won the 2023 APA 9-Ball Shootout Pool Championship in Las Vegas.

June 15

Schuylkill Haven Borough Council voted to proceed with another year of participating in the Community Development Block Grant program.

Horses & Horizons Therapeutic Learning Center Inc. celebrated its 30th anniversary on June 4 with a picnic for riders, volunteers and their families.

The Tri-County Football League awarded $100 scholarships to players on each of its 17 teams in Schuylkill, Carbon, Luzerne and Northumberland counties.

June 22

The Blue Mountain High School softball teams received a hero-s welcome after winning the state Class 4A title.

Schuylkill Haven School Board gave an update on the state of repairs to the district pool. An additional leak had been found that would need professional repairs.

The latest legislative push to have Pennsylvania join all neighboring states and ban the use of handheld cellphones by drivers was launched formally this month. A Senate committee passed a bill under the hopeful gaze of Eileen Miller whose 21-year-old son was killed in 2010 in a crash involving a distracted diver.

June 29

The Blue Mountain School Board approved a $47.6 million budget with no tax increase.

Ricky and Austin Strausser of Auburn defeated 125 other teams during the five-hour Kaercher Creek bass tournament.

Kevin McFarland, a Hamburg grad, was presented a 5-year full scholarship to West Point during his graduation party. McFarland was accepted into three military academies, The United States Naval Academy, the United States Military Academy at West Point and the Air Force Academy.
