16 Berks County Organizations to Celebrate Recovery Awareness Night at the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Aug. 15

from Council on Chemical Abuse

The SOS Berks Opioid Coalition and Berks Counseling Center have joined together with 14 other area organizations to sponsor the third annual Recovery Awareness Night at the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Thursday, Aug. 15.

The organizations will set up tables throughout the plaza of FirstEnergy Stadium before the baseball game, providing information on substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery. They will also give away over 600 free t-shirts on a first come first serve basis to attendees.

The baseball game will feature the Reading Fightin’ Phils vs. the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Gates open at 5 p.m., and the game starts at 7 p.m. Fireworks will follow the game.

The goal of the event is to raise awareness that recovery from substance use disorder is possible and to celebrate those who are living in recovery, as well as the many providers who work to help people in their recovery journeys. The organizations participating also hope to connect more people to their services and draw attention to the fact that support for treatment and recovery is available right here in Berks County.

As the main sponsors of the game, SOS Berks and Berks Counseling Center received 5,000 tickets which were distributed to the general public and to clients of many of the partnering organizations. The tickets afford clients an opportunity to participate in the evening, enjoying the baseball game while also celebrating the journey of recovery made by so many Berks County residents.

“The goal of SOS Berks is to Stop Overdoses and Save Lives in our communities,” said SOS Berks Co-Chair Kathleen F. Noll, who is also the executive director of the Council on Chemical Abuse. “Sponsoring the Recovery Awareness Night game enables us and our partners to spread a message of hope and provide treatment and recovery information to a large audience.”

All the event sponsors are looking forward to an enjoyable evening that also allows them to promote valuable resources.

“Berks Counseling Center is proud to co-sponsor this community event and to join our fellow providers in raising awareness around the array of substance abuse treatment and recovery services in Berks County,” noted Chris Axford, CEO of Berks Counseling Center.
