2 juvenile offenders escape from southern Berks facility

Two males have escaped from the Abraxas Academy youth detention facility in New Morgan, according to police in Caernarvon and Robeson Township.

The escape took place around 4 p.m. Saturday and involved one person from Reading and another from Bristol Township, Bucks County, according to Facebook posts by the two southern Berks County police departments

Caernarvon police said state police are handling the investigation, and there had been no sightings of the pair as of Sunday morning.

Police are urging residents in the area to keep an eye out and secure their vehicles and property.

Abraxas, a private facility in New Morgan, has a history of dealing with disturbances among the juvenile offenders it houses. In September one such disturbance led to the escape of nine offenders. They were captured the next day a few miles away.
